The process of using your mind to develop a greater understanding of yourself, others, and the world around you.
It’s not just about learning “book smarts,” it’s about life-long learning. To achieve intellectual well-being, we can:
- Read a book for fun
- Make rational, logical decisions
- Think before reacting to situations
- Learn more about our interests and hobbies
- Develop critical thinking skills
- Consider the impact we each can have on the world
- Keep up on global events
- Not judge people by their circumstances
- Try new things
- Discuss the news with friends
- Listen to National Public Radio (NPR)… or as my nerdier friends call it: National Professor Radio
- Debate
- Listen to a book on tape/CD when taking long trips
- Take a college class for personal enrichment, regardless of your age
- Write or e-mail a friend or penpal in another part of the world to learn about other cultures
- Read the directions, even if you choose to ignore them!
- Learn what all of your “numbers” mean… cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, BP, RR, etc.
- Ask questions!
- Read to your children at a very early age
- Record those family recipes for the best cookies anyone has ever tasted… be sure those recipes become part of your family’s heritage
